Vocabulary, vocabulary, vocabulary!

Hagan is sooo easy to home school!

He's about ready to academically pass
my home schooling ability!

He loves
field trips,
math,
ABC's,
writing,
books -
ohhhh how he loves books!

He doesn't so much like using scissors -
but that is something he needs
to strengthen his hands
and fingers.

Academically he does incredibly well -
but we need new ideas to expand
his vocabulary -
do y'all have any suggestions?

And cause he's just too cute...
here's a little video of him doing his school work.

Hi! I've been reading your blog for a while but have never commented! I am a senior in college and I am an elementary education major so I thought I'd share some strategies we've talked about in class!
One of the best things you can do is keep reading to him! Children pick up so many words when they hear them read! If there is a particular set of words you want him to learn, such as words relating to fall, find books on that topic and read and reread them to him! Just having conversations with him is another great way to increase vocabulary! He will pick up the words that he hears! Be intentional, so if you want him to learn kitchen vocabulary, have him in the kitchen as you cook and tell him the names of all of the ingredients and utensils you use! When you're out in the car, choose a particular letter and point out to him words that start with that letter or have him find words that start with that letter. In classrooms, teachers often create word walls where the class posts words that they see or hear that fall into a particular category. You could do this with a piece of poster board in your home. You probably know this, but pinterest has a ton of great ideas too! Good luck with it!

Hagan, you are SO smart little dude! How cool that you can identify your letters and say their sounds!!! Way to go!! My boys really like Leapfrog too, such a great way to learn those sounds! Now you can start putting some sounds together. Like B and A and T, says... BAT! Books will help with that vocabulary, do you like to read books? Mama is so creative, maybe she'll make you some homemade flashcard-like books!
