Some days he comes home from school

exhausted,

but you know what?

He doesn't stop!

He loves to learn and he wants to learn!

and he has an incredible kindergarten teacher

who works with him,

pushes him to do his best,

but also understands

when he is having a bad day

and let's him progress at his level!

Here is some more information on little Gus!

What a little cutie! Due to Gus being diagnosed with Pygmyism, it is reported that he has shorter legs and arms than other children of his age. Gus is "fat and fair, strong and lovely". Gus has similar motion development of his limbs as other children. He can crawl. He can sit alone sometimes. He can stand with hands on the caretaker or on the wall. He is "deft" in the motion of hands and feet. He can grasp or hold things. He can play with toys and move in the walker. He has good coordination. At the time of this report, Gus could cry and smile, but could not speak. It is reported he could utter sounds like "gu-gu" when the caretakers speak to him. He can also babble when he plays by himself to express his emotions. Compared with other children, he has normal development. He can understand the facial expressions of adults and can imitate sounds, laugh aloud, and have reaction when called. It is reported that Gus has normal hearing and sight development and is sensitive to sounds. He is curious about the sounds in the room and can seek the person according to the sounds he hears. He can see things 5-6 meters away and can see the pictures on the wall. He has reactions to moving objects and can seek toys when dropped. He has not had a severe disease since admission.

We don't have any room in our home.

We don't have room in our car.

There are only 6 chairs at our dinner table.

I wont have any free time.

I'm past that stage of my life.

I'm thankful for the three God has blessed us with -

I'm good with that!

I really don't need more chaos in my life.

Finances are tight as it is -

we would have to give up so much!

Prayers of strangers

I thought I would share a story with y'all today.

The weekend before Thanksgiving Kenzie, Conner and Dad
had a soccer tournament,
which meant
within 48 hours we could have 12 games.

I say "we" because, though Dad is coaching
and Kenzie and Conner are playing -
our four littles and I attended each game
and had to make sure that Kenzie and Conner were
at their warm-ups at the appropriate time,
even if Dad was coaching the other team.
(Brady was ref'ing another tournament closer to home)

Tournament weekends are weekends
which I spend days organizing the meal and entertainment plans for the littles.
Cause bored "littles" ain't fun for anyone.

Anywhoooo, it was Saturday mid-morning -
we were getting ready for game 4.
Trying to find a parking space at this particular field
is near impossible -
I was super excited when I say a car pull out and I could get my
big ole' SUV in.
And thank you Lord,
it was near a sidewalk so the littles would be safe out of the parking lot,
(I hate parking lots with four littles -
scares me to death!)
as I unloaded the needed food and toys for this game.

Well,
hunger and bordem kicked in while we were still in the car.
It was not one of our finest moments.
2 out of 4 were having...
well...
hissy fits.

There was a sweet, older couple who had set up their soccer chairs on the sidewalk
to watch their grandsons game on the nearest field.
They watched me with the kiddos,
and I could tell they wanted to help but had no clue of how to help.

As I got everyone out of the car,
the two hissy fits became more intense,
the stroller that I brought to carry food and toys was now being used as
a time out chair -
screaming and thrashing going on.
(I said this was not one of our finest hours.)

We finally got it all together - 2 kids running ahead giddy,
2 kids screaming and thrashing,
and sweaty, irritated mom carrying bags of "stuff".

We arrived at our field,
to find out the game was delayed so we had time to relax and
have a snack before the game -
as we sat and regrouped,
the clouds covered us, and the wind picked up,
now we were cold and whinny.
Of course, I had left our jackets in the car -
remember, I was sweating before. :)

My dear friend, Rebecca, offered to stay with the kiddo's while I
went back to the car.
Thank you! Thank you Rebecca!

As I came up to my car, I noticed the older couple had put their chairs away and were now
sitting in their vehicle next to ours.

The gentleman saw me coming and jumped out of his vehicle,
and began asking questions and making sweet comments-
"How many kids do you have?"
"How long have they been home?"
"Bless you."
He was very sweet and we had a nice conversation -
as I explained that every day is not like what he had just witnessed.

As our conversation was coming to an end,
he asked,
"What is your name?
My wife and I want to add you to our daily prayer list
and pray for y'all."

I'm telling y'all the tears began flowing!
What a sweet couple!
They took their gift that God had given them of prayer
and took it further to pray for a complete stranger
and her family.

There are still days like this one,
and I find peace from the Lord that there are people like
this sweet couple praying for us!

Well, I just heard that his family

found him and they are traveling

soon to bring him home!

This never gets old!

Around the Table

"Momma" is more than a name

I'll never forget when Jorja had been home for a few weeks,

we were out and about and she called me "momma".

Someone said to us,

"Ohhh so sweet she calls you momma."

I thought,

well of course she calls me momma,

I mean,

what else would she call me.

But,

as I have grown,

and welcomed two more older boys home

and expect them to call me "momma",

I've begun to wonder...

our girls never knew what a "momma"

was,

yet still accepted me to take this huge place in their life.

Our boys knew their momma.

They have memories of playing with her,

cuddling with her,

talking with her,

her feeding them,

and all of them loving on each other...

and they have memories of losing her.

Nine months ago,

2 strangers walked into their lives,

they were quietly eating their Easter dinner,

and they were told,

"Your momma and daddy are here."

What went through their minds?

Did their hearts skip a beat as they hoped it was their

biological parents?

We have been thankful that they have welcomed us into their hearts

as their

Momma and Daddy.

I love to hear their stories of their time in Ethiopia,

with their biological family

and their family at the orphanage -

their stories did not start when they entered our family,

their story began at birth.

I wish I knew more about their beginnings

and why they react to different things -

like...

why do they giggle out of control

when they see rain!

Donovan says "I just love rain on my tongue!"

or

what scared them so much that walking by
bushes at night
scare them speechless.

I get goosebumps when they call me "momma"

Welcome

We had such nice weather between Christmas

and New Years that we were able to get some

projects done -

clean out the garage

(and re-fill it with bags labeled "garage sale")

take down the Christmas lights,

and well...

just play...

Jailyn takes every advantage to work on her
gymnastics skills.

And they are off -
watch out for the bikes!
Donovan found Kenzie's old roller blades,
they fit and he was off!
This boys is sooo athletic!

My crazy boy!
Is he not just soooo cute!

My sweet, sweet girl -
she is just plain beautiful!

Kenzie worked on her photography skills

and mom got to paint the front door.

The family was a bit nervous when I told them what

I wanted to do,

but

they love it now too!

This week our house has been filled with football

and lots of Sports Center!

I just have to say -

GO BRONCOS!

(but that is another post!)

A different scene hit me hard today.

I was on the bike at the gym

(again, another ~~post~~ - comedic post)

watching the conveniently located TV screen

right in front of me.

I was watching Sports Center,

they were showing highlights of the

LSU vs Bama Championship game.

A player got hurt on a good play.

(sorry I'm not a sport commentator)

I cringed when he tried to get up

as he was not able to put any pressure on his left leg.

Through his anguish I could feel the pain,

but the pain on his face, the tears flowing

were not because of his leg.

The pain was because he knew he was going to be out

for the rest of the game.

The game he had been waiting to play in for so long,

all the work that he put into preparation for this one game.

The weight lifting,

the running,

giving his 110% at each practice and games before.

GONE.

One injury and he was done.

The Holy Spirit hit me hard -

right there in a crowded gym,

minding my own business watching TV.

He said,

"Are you in tears because you want to get into the game?

Are you aching to get right with God?

Are you willing to work through the pain?

Are you willing to let God prepare you

for what HE wants to do with you?

Or,

are you sitting in the stands,

hot dog and beer in hand,

cheering God on?"

Donovan just loves his daddy.

A few weeks ago,

Donovan was playing, got up from his activities,

walked over to Bryan,

hugged his leg and said,

"I love you.

You are a nice Daddy."

Melt my heart!

Our sweet son,

was the man of the house -

he has taken care of his little brother for

way too long.

Then we came into their lives -

One would think that after being home

from our last trip to Ethiopia over 6 months ago,

and our first trip to China almost 5 years ago,

our last trip to China 3 years ago,

that I would be able to get over

"it".

You'd think I'd be able to lay down at night

without crying myself to sleep.

You'd think that as I feed

my babies breakfast before school,

that I wouldn't have tears roll down my face.

I am thankful that my babies are home,

thankful that God choose to bless us

with these silly, silly kiddos.

Thankful that I get to tuck them into bed every night.

Thankful that I get to greet them with hugs

every morning.

You'd think it would get easier,

but when I look into the eyes of

my babies

I am constantly reminded of the babies

who don't have any one to

teach them right from wrong,

no dinner table to sit at,

no one who cares if their feelings are hurt,

no one to love them.

It doesn't get any easier,

and,

thank God it doesn't.

Who supports who?

I had a little survey a few weeks ago,

who supported you when you

returned home with your new child/ren

from your international adoption?

Thank you to so many of you answering this survey.

And though I had hoped my thinking was wrong -

I wasn't surprised by the results.

It seems most people have received their support from

other bloggy friends.

A few were supported from a local adoption group

and a few were "other"

(which I'm not sure what "other" is)

The least amount of support came from adoption agencies.
(I have a soapbox about this one -
and may get on it and voice my opinion very soon. :)

I wonder why the agencies are not supporting
their families.

Can anyone answer this for me?

beauty from ashes

This week, I was hoping to do a daily blog post of

our experience when we first met Jorja,

our time in China,

but as I tried to put some posts together

I was brought to tears,

and had to stop to pray.

Our trip to China was not the adoption fantasy that every mother

dreams of,

hopes for,

and many times

expects.

We had a rough start to our mother - daughter relationship.

She fought the idea of her needing a mother.

I grieved that she wasn't accepting me.

She was a tiny thing -

weeks away from being 5 years old and

weighing about 25 lbs.

But she was strong,

and could stare you down with death ray eyes.

As we celebrated her 3 years of being in our arms,

I am brought to my knees.

God has truly

"...bestowed on her a crown of beauty instead of ashes,

the oil of gladness

instead of mourning,

and a garment of praise

instead of spirit of despair.

they are called oaks of righteousness,

a planting of the Lord

for the display of his splendor."

Isaiah 61:3

He is healing her moment by moment

day by day.

I look back at photos of her frail body,

her short, short, short hair,

her scared little self

and am incredibly thankful I do not see

that little girl anymore.

Today God has made her happy-go-lucky!

He has made her able to trust her momma.

He is healing her as she knows

she will have food every day,

I can still remember the first time she felt

her tummy ache because she had eaten too much -

a feeling she had never experienced.

and when she sleeps at night -

she knows her family will still be

here in the morning.

She loves to run, play, sing, cuddle and giggle.

He has allowed her to remembers her past

but she does not live in her past.

Only God could have turned this hardened

little girl into the loving, giving, sweetie

that she is today!

We praise him daily that He is the one who

"heals the brokenhearted

and binds up their wounds."

Jorja shines with God's love.

I'll never forget the feeling when we sat on the couch with our friend Rebecca,

waiting for Ms. Jorja!

There were other adoptive parents in the room but it seemed

that time stood still when I saw

two ladies and a little girl came off the elevator.

They turned to another room away from us.

I told Rebecca,

"That is her!"

She said,

"No, your daughter is almost 5.

That little one is more like 2.

Look at her she's tiny."

I looked at Rebecca and said,

"Rebecca, that is my daughter.

Please go check."

Sweet Rebecca went to check things out.

To her surprise

that was Jorja!

What can I say - a momma knows!

our first meeting went incredibly well,

she cried a little bit -

until I pulled out the lollipops!

She took a shining to Daddy right away!

And never wanted to leave his side!

What a blessing our little Jorja is!

on their craft project.

It's about JESUS!"

Ohhh yes my baby!

So thankful that will all he is learning

and re-learning

That God has made himself known!

(and thank you to our babies Sunday School teachers

Mrs. April and Mr. Mark for putting together

the Happy Birthday Jesus celebration last week -

this is a great idea and really helps kids understand!)

Moments like these

My baby is so precious,

But thank God for moments

Understanding "No"

One of our children specifically,

has a very hard time when we tell him "no".

"No, we can't ride bikes right now."

"No, you can't take a bath right now."

"No, we cannot read a book until all your

toys are put away."

Though we know riding bikes,

taking baths,

and reading books

are good things

for him -

there are times the answer has to be "No".

~~~

This is also something I struggle with -

I don't like it when God tells me "no".

"Really God?"

"This is a good thing -

you have given me a heart for this -

why are you closing doors on me?"

This is when I have to trust,

and when I have to have faith in HIM -

He is in control!

He does know what is best for me and my family.

"No" to our son doesn't mean,

he never gets to ride his bike,

or splash in the tub,

or sit on momma's lap and read books after book,

and

"No" from my Heavenly Father

only means

He loves me enough to teach me,

and ask me to wait

for HIS will to be done.

Isaiah 40:31 (KJV

but those who wait in the LORD

shall renew their strength:

they shall mount up with wings as eagles;

they shall run, and not be weary;

they shall walk,

and not faint.

God is so good!

Remember this post

REALITY

from just a few days ago.

Well, I was wrong!

The reality for this special little boy

is that God is so good!

And

God is in control!

And,

ya know what?

God loves him sooooo much!!

And so does his new family!

Oh yeah!

You heard me right!

A child that was placed in foster care,

because he had no earthly hope

of being adopted -

God has a different plan for him!

This just makes me giddy!

6 month post adoption

I can't believe today is our 6 month post adoption visit

with our Social Worker.

In a few weeks we will celebrate Donovan and Elijah
being home for 6 months!

Amazing!

Our family has experienced so much in the last 6 months.

The excitement.

We played together,

we learned together,

we were silly together,

we laughed together,

we tickled each other,

we held each other.

The pressure.

We tested our boundaries together,

we learned limits together,

we cried together,

we screamed together,

we pouted together,

we prayed together,

we held one another.

The stress.

we grieved together,

we were sad together,

we cried together,

we prayed together,

we held each other.

The growth.

We are growing together,

we are understanding each other,

we still cry together,

we are still silly together,

we love to tickle each other,

we pray together

and we hold each other!

We are incredibly thankful for these two little boys

who have changed our lives!

Thanks be to God, who brought them home

to us!

C is for Cookie!

The kids were begging to do some cookie decorating -

3 out of 5 were begging.

(The 2 big kids weren't home -

but of course were upset that we didn't wait for them.)

Donovan and Elijah were like,

he always sticks his tongue out when he

kinda like Uncle Jeff did!

Growing Together

A few weeks ago at church we hit a milestone

with our little guy!

You see, our church serves donuts -

and well, yes, as soon as we arrive -

all the littles as how many donut holes they can have.

The answer is always 3.

This Sunday was no different -

we entered the building and all 4 ran off for donuts,

the only difference,

was that Dad and I stopped to talk to a friend

who's wife has just been diagnosed with breast cancer.

As we were talking to him,

out of the corner of my eye I saw my little guy...

he had come back -

he had his cup of donuts,

but he was coming back to find me.

To check on me.

To make sure I hadn't left him.

This is H.U.G.E. in the world of bonding and attachment!

Elijah is doing well with the transition but this is the first time

that he has actually sought me out.

He finds me at home -

but in a public setting -

he has always found security in his brother.

Weeks later and I am still teary eye'd over this!

I am so thankful that I am more to him then

a cook, maid,

and the person who makes him pick up his toys.

I am his mommy and he is beginning

to believe it.

I honestly believe I have dreaded this school assignment

since I saw Jorja's sweet face!

The first photo that we fell in love with!

The day we knew that we would adopt an "older child".

The day when I knew I would have no baby photos of her.

The day I grieved that I had missed the appearance of her first tooth,

her first smile,

and her first steps.

But today,

I'm gonna tell y'all how proud I am of my daughter!

We discussed this assignment,

we openly discussed how it is okay that we don't
have any baby pictures,

but that doesn't make Jorja any less important

then anyone else in her classroom.

Jorja worked hard,

and beamed with pride

as she worked on her
personal timeline for school.

We began her story with a map of China,

her referral photo,

a photo of her when we were at the White Swan in China,

and a photo of her home with Jailyn

(they are BFF's ya know').

The line for the Time Line we made a red ribbon -
to represent the Chinese proverb:
"An invisible red thread connects those destined to meet,
despite the time, the place,
and despite the circumstances.
The thread can be tightened
or tangles,
but will never be broken."

We then continued with a photo from each birthday

and then a first from that year,

her first pony ride,

her first soccer game,

her first day of school.

She had a great time decorating her poster!

She came home and told me that her teacher

was very proud of her,

and that she loved that it was creative

and a beautiful story of "Jorja".

Ohhhh thank you Jesus!

Though I dreaded this assignment -

again you have brought beauty from ashes!

Thank you for healing my little girl one step at a time!

When I spoke to Marci today about this sweetie,
she had spent 5 days with him.

I could tell by the cracking in her voice,
he had touched her heart,

because he is being labeled "unadoptable".

The surgery he needs is not available in China,
he needs to come to the states.

This is the reality of the orphan.
They have given up on him -
he has been sent to foster care to die.

For the last few months

Elijah and our friend Joshua

have had a few play dates -

after 5 months of warming up to each other -

they are buddies!

Elijah loves his buddy Joshua.

I love watching my son

I love this time of year,

and

I hate this time of year.

I saw a cartoon on Thanksgiving night, it

said,

"Amazing how we spent the day thankful for what we have -

and head out on Black Friday to buy more."

This hit me hard,

I was one of those crazies out on Black Friday -

though I promise I wasn't totally 'crazy'.

The big kids and I have built memories by hitting

a few shops -

people watching and then having iHOP breakfast at 2am!

This little cartoon really got me to thinking.

I love all the good wishes from everyone,

I love getting Christmas cards and pictures from friends

and family,

I love spending this magical time with my family.

I love that this time of the year people reach out to those in need.

City food pantries are full,

clothing drives supply coats,

we fill shoeboxes for

a Christmas angel

filled with a toy,

a new outfit and some shoes.

If we bring food cans to the delivery station -

we've done our part for the season,

and we're feeling pretty good about ourselves.

But, I have to ask -

What do we do for the rest of the year?

Do we think about the local food pantry in May?

Do we think about clothing needed for the summer?

Do we take the time to sit down and play with

our Christmas angel with his/her new toy?

or take a photo of them in new outfit?

Do we sit and listen the elderly?

I personally need to examine and pray for guidance

as to what Christ wants me to do with my life.

God does not say to love others during the holiday season and you are good,

rather He says,

Matthew 25:35-40

³⁵ For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you invited me in,
³⁶ I needed clothes and you clothed me,
I was sick and you looked after me,
I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

We were able to see our friend Liyone and his

wonderful family last weekend.

It was a short visit,

as we were rushing from soccer game to soccer game -

but since our games were in their neck of the woods -

they were willing to come visit with us during one

of the games.

And we had a great time!

I just cry...

when I think of the life my babies would be living

if God had not spoken to us -

and we had not followed his lead

to bring them home.

One child of ours has a horrible history -

one that makes my stomach turn,

just thinking about it.

And to have heard the story from my child,

see the hurt in their eyes,

feel their body shake

as stories have been shared.

I can't imagine what would be of this child,

if God had not

brought us together.

And today,

I am completely grateful to have my family home

under one roof,

eating turkey, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and

chocolate cake...

(to my dismay, my family doesn't like pumpkin pie)

I am thankful for the giggles in the house,
the sibling rivalry that will be part of our day...
but,
I miss my mommy and brothers today -
(hi y'all!)

and I cry today -

I cry for my friends that I met in Ethiopia,

especially Z!

I cry for families who have been waiting and waiting

to be united with their children.

I cry for children who may never know what

it truly means to be part of a family.

I cry for our military families who are separated from each other.

Ohhh they sacrifice so much!

I cry with thanksgiving that Christ died on the cross for my

sins,

so that I can be called His adopted daughter.

Sweet Elin was on a few different

agency lists,

(some referred to her as Elin, some as Bella)

after searching for a family,

with no luck,

her file was tucked away

and she was placed on the shared list

for China.

Well, yesterday, I received the most

awesome,

incredible news!!!

She has a family!

One of the first full phrases that Donovan

and Elijah learned in English

and said on their own -

was,

"Hey Mom, look at me!"

It made me giggle!

We were at the pool -

and all four little kiddo's were

showing me their skills!

It was loud and everyone yelling for my attention,

and all I could do was giggle!

These four didn't have anyone to show off for,

for way too long!

When we walked into the boys orphanage

on April 24th the kids were eating lunch -

but as soon as they were done -

all the kids were ready to be loved on.

They knew that we would watch them as they showed off for us.

If only more could show off for their mommies and daddies!

Scars

Our children were given a paper bag and asked to

to crumple it up,

stomp on it,
yell insults at it.

and really mess it up but

do NOT rip it.

Then they straightened out the bag,
and iron out the wrinkles.
Though they worked hard to smooth it out,
we noticed how scarred the bag still was.

We made the bags into self portrait puppets.

And discussed how scars from our past will
always be there -
scars from others hurt our hearts.
How we hurt each other with our words,
and actions.

But, we are family and we will work through
those hurts,
and help make the scars a bit more bearable!

My babies come from worlds where they have been hurt so

deeply these scars will never go away.

But, thank God they can heal

and learn how to love others -

like Christ loves us.

My heart is in Ethiopia: Part VI

The worries have become larger and larger -

I have prayed and prayed for God to show himself

to us and to take a way this burden -

But, for now -

Z still waits.

Hubby says "no, not now."

(I don't understand but I tell you this not to dis my hubby -

but I know there are other spouse's out there

feeling the same way about a specific child or

just over adoption in general,

and I want to you to know that your not alone.)

I have to trust the fact that

God loves my Z!

He loves Z more then I will ever comprehend.

Like I said at the beginning for this saga -

"It doesn't end the way I want it to."

But as I have been praying for God to show me

the role I am to play in Z's life.

I know what I want,

I want Z to be my son,

I want to show him the love of a family,

I want him to feel secure,

I want him to learn to trust,

and love.

But I have to wait on the Lord
and what HE WANTS

for now,

I have been honored with the role of

advocating for him.

I want the best for Z!

and
I want to serve my God!

My Heart is in Ethiopia: Part V

Really -
when I began this story,
I didn't think it was going to be this long.
But now, I'm sure you will agree,
this has been a long roller coaster ride!

As I looked back at my emails I was amazed to realize

that the day I knew this other family would begin

the adoption process,
and the next phone call I receivedfrom them

was only 10 days.

10 days!

Wow!

It seemed like months!
So many emotions, so much praying,
heartache but rejoicing that Z had a family.

The phone call I received from this special family
was them wanting to let us know that they would have
to slow down on their adoption process for Z.

They wanted to let us know that

this special boy is their highest priority,

they would be honored and blessed to bring him home,

but because they are unable to get to him soon,

they wanted to let us know.

I cried for them.

They are having to let go of him -

like we had too.

And again,
we wondered is this God telling us he is yours -
"go get him!"

~

But we were still 23 days away from being able to

begin our paperwork for another adoption.

And 116 days to be able to be matched with this sweetie.

More praying and searching for what God wants us to do,

and what part does God want us to play in this little guys life.

~

Within the next 23 days we had our 3 month post placement
with our social worker.
We were able to ask her about the idea of us adopting Z.
In her wonderful, supportive true form -
she reminded us of the trials of bringing home an older child,
adding a child out of birth order,
and
adding another child to our very busy family!

But she was willing to support us whatever our decision would be.

After the 3 month wait,
we also spoke to our agency -
we really didn't want to begin paperwork if by the time we were able to
be "matched" with Z,
he may be "matched" with someone else.
Right now, we really aren't looking to adopt all 163 million orphans,
just Z.

A few weeks later,
our agency came back to tell us -
that they would be willing to "match" us in office with Z.
Kinda an unofficial match-
but no one else could be matched with him.

This is a huge blessing!

Let's get the paper work rolling

So we thought -
then the worries began to set in...

8 kids,
new vehicle,
daily expenses,
time for each child...

What should we do with these worries?
Are they legitimate concerns,
or Satan getting in the way?

My heart is in Ethiopia: Part IV

Sorry for the roller coaster of blog posts but really -

do you think I would tell you the whole story -

in one lump sum?

Come on - it's been months of roller coasters for us!

(Tee! Hee!)

Bryan and I knew that even if we wanted to begin the
adoption process for Z

we would have to wait.
Our agencies policy for second adoptions is that we would have to wait

3 months (122 days) until we meet with our social worker
for our 3 month post-adoption visit for Donovan and Elijah,
before we could even begin a home study for Z.

And that would all depend on how our new family is bonding.

And did Donovan and Elijah even like this other kiddo?

And then we would have to wait 6 months
to be officially matched with Z.

At 54 days of being home,

I received an email from an adoptive family.

They had a friend who had questions about our agencies waiting children,

and wondered if I would be willing to share with them what I knew about

all three boys!

Of course!!!

I would love to talk about these boys!

Anyone who knows me in RL(real life) knows that I love

to talk about these boys!

Well, this family didn't want to hear anything about two of the boys,

just the one that we had already felt led to...

Z

My heart sank a little,
okay if we are being honest here -
my heart sank A LOT!
You see I'm selfish like that!

While I chatted on the phone with this nice momma,

who has a beautiful heart for the orphan,

and has been so touched by the photos that I was able to take

of precious Z,
we were strangers who laughed, cried and found a new friendship
in each other through our love for this sweet boy.

Honestly I wanted to discourage this family from
adopting this boy,
not because she isn't awesome
but because that I wanted to bring him home,
and ~~sometimes~~ too often I think it's all about me.

Thankfully God took control of my tongue -
and I shared everything wonderful about this boy.

This sweet family fell in love with him too.
A few days later I received an email from them saying that they
were going to proceed with his adoption.
I was honestly sooooo happy for everyone!
I was happy Z -
he would finally have a family of his own!
A family who dearly loved him,
and this family would be so blessed to call this sweetie - "son".

But,
my evil self was also very sad.
I really thought he was to be our son!
I couldn't wait to begin paperwork for him!
I couldn't imagine life without him.
After a few days of pouting,
and praying,
I was able to be happy and at peace with God's plan.

O'course,
We then wondered, prayed, searched for what God wanted us to do.
What about the other two boys who wait
at the same orphanage...

But, we didn't feel that God is asking us to bring them home.

If this one boy isn't our son -
what does God want?
I know God isn't finished with us!

My Heart is in Ethiopia:Part III

We had been home for a few weeks with Donovan and Elijah -

the transition was going so well -

we felt so blessed!

This transition can be very difficult,

adding 2 new kids to the schedule,

2 new personalities to the family,

and

respecting their emotions -

their fears,

their insecurities

but really God showed up every day

reinforcing to us that His plan is perfect!

We were so thankful,

and with every moment and day that we bonded,

and attached with our boys

and they attached with us -

we couldn't get Z off our minds.

You would think "out of sight out of mind"

but this was not the case with Z.

Z has 2 friends who have also been on the waiting child list for

over a year.
They all needed someone to advocate for them.

To share what wonderful boys these three are!
I was more then willing to speak for their boys and share what I knew.
Donovan was able to give us a lot of insight too!
Some funny stories and some heart wrenching stories.
With each story we grew closer and closer to Z.

Until the day I received a phone call from our agency.

The three boys were "on hold".

"On hold" meaning if anyone asked about them they would have to

wait to see their files.
An investigation on their paperwork had to be completed. .

Our agency had become aware that some of the birth families
from the region these boys are from didn't understand

that "relinquishing" their children meant forever

and could mean international adoption.

We were looking at three options for the boys -

1) biological families would take them back home!

which would be wonderful!

2) foster care in Ethiopia - and we would search for sponsors for the boys.

3) they would be available for international adoption.

Though the investigation only took 11 days -

it felt like forever.

The boys were available again for International Adoption.

We began advocating again,

and praying again as to what God's plans were for us

in the lives of these boys

and especially Z.

My heart is in Ethiopia: Part II

Returning home from Ethiopia was soooo very hard.

We just wanted to bring Donovan and Elijah home with us then and there.

But, that's not how Ethiopian adoptions are set up -

sooooo,

we came home to wait for Embassy clearance and travel dates

as to when we could return for our boys.

The only good part about not taking Donovan and Elijah then,

was that I knew I would be back to see Z
and love on him a bit more.

This sweetie who kissed me on the cheek the day we left,

and told me he loved me.

This sweet, older boy who had waited so long for someone
to pay extra attention to him.

And I'd get to go back and

love on him again!

A week or so after we were home,

the family who had wanted to begin the adoption process Z,

believed that God was telling them,

"No, not now, but his parents will show up soon!"

I got chills,

was that us?

I want that to be us -
but is that what God wants for us?
Why has this boy hit my heart so hard,
what is my role in his life?

Seven weeks later I and my brother, Uncle JB, were on the plane to bring

Donovan and Elijah home!

But, I knew how hard it would be to walk away again.

And this time with no promise of ever getting back to him.

My heart is in Ethiopia: Part I

This is our story for the last 6 months -
though I wish with all my heart that it
ended in a different way -
infact, I'm not sure how I am going to end this story -
God is still working on that.
I feel that I need to share our story and our
roller coaster ride of adoption.

If anyone had told me 6 months ago about
the emotional roller coaster ride we were about to get on,

I would have laughed in their face!

So it's a good thing no one told me!

I want to share our entire God story with y'all.

There have been many hills, valleys and bumps

that we never saw coming,

but thankfully God had us strapped in and

though sometimes we rode with our hands grasp tightly,

trying to peddle backwards -

He was at the helm

and we finally threw our arms up

and decided to enjoy the ride He put us on.

On April, 24, 2011 we met our beautiful boys for the first time!

We were so happy to finally hold them

and love on them -
even if it was for a short one week trip to Ethiopia.

Not only did we meet our boys,

and fall madly in love with them.

We also fell in love with another little boy.
I say "little" boy but he is really 10 yrs old.

We didn't know anything about him,

but that first day at the orphanage -

we fell in love!

He has a quiet spirit,

he didn't push and shove,

he waited his turn for us to come to him.

He just has these incredible eyes filled with many, many stories.

We call him "Z".

Early in the week we learned that another adoptive family,
who were also in Ethiopia that week for court
for their two boys but at a different orphanage,
were interested in meeting Z and

came to visit this special guy,
after they met him

they made calls to our agency to begin paperwork for him
ASAP!

We were excited for all of them!

Though there was an ache in our hearts for him.

Throughout the week we played with him,

and our boys,

and the other kids at the orphanage.

Getting to know all of them.

At the end of the week we were heartbroken
to have to leave Donovan and Elijah
and this sweet boy too.

A name

Our friend, Dee, wrote an incredible post on her blog

about what a name can mean to someone.

I admit,

I take names lightly.

My name is Jodi.

Some people spell it Jody

or Jodie,

even pronounce it

Judy.

It doesn't bother me at all.

My husbands name is Bryan.

That's Brian,

with a Y.

His license used to read Brain.

(which I think he really liked)

and some junk mail comes addressed to

Brawn.

(which again,

he really likes!)

But when Dee wrote about her daughter,

(Evelyn and Jorja were best friends in China)

and how Evelyn never heard her Chinese name used in reference to her

while in China -

I thought I would ask Jorja if people at "Director Han's"

(how we refer to the orphanage)

ever used her name

Chun Yu

She thought for a moment

and then said,

"No, I don't remember hearing ChunYu,

until you and Daddy and Ms. Rebecca call me it."

(Ms. Rebecca was our facilitator in China)

She tapped me on the arm and said,

"That is all they did,

and then said 'come here',

or 'No, don't do that.' "

WOW!

I can't even imagine going through life and

not knowing or hearing my name.

Now I understand why it has taken Jorja almost

3 years to allow us to call her,

"honey"

"sweetie"

"Jorja Porja"

Claiming ownership to her name has been a precious
gift to her.

I love you Jorja - Porja!
(can't help myself - I'm a nickname kinda person!)

Another step in the healing process of my little girl!

Our first season of football for Conner

came to an end this Monday evening.

He had a great season playing for his school team.

Going into the sport -

Conner wasn't sure where he would play,

or how much field time he would see

but, a few games in -

he was playing both offense, defense and special teams.

He received MVP for

offense and special teams

through out the season.

(we are the Cowboys)

Needless to say -

he had a great experience!

And we had a great time

going to the games!

Since the last game was on Halloween

and the littles missed

trick or treating -

Kenzie painted their faces for them!

Older child adoption

I've been asked to do a blog post for

tlcfortlz.blogspot.com

a wonderful blog that in a few days

will be holding an online silent auction

inorder to raise grant funds for three very special boys

in Ethiopia.

"Older Child" in the international adoption world

includes kids 3 yrs and older.

So today,

I thought I would highlight my son Donovan.

We went into our Ethiopian adoption and paperwork thinking we were going to adopt

a child or two under 3.

But, then...

we saw this photo.

And our life was changed!

Honestly, we were scared of this little face.

We worried about the hurt that he had endured,

Would he accept us as his parents?

Would he accept our other kids as his siblings?
Would we be able to help him through this hurt?

When other parents returned from Ethiopia,

from visiting their children,

we were continually told how quiet and shy he was.

He would keep his distance, in the corner with his soccer ball.

When we arrived in April for our Ethiopian court date,

and to meet our boys.

Donovan kept a wall up with us

he was still quiet and at times would be distant.

But, when we traveled again in June to bring him home,

he was a different child,

he was more then ready to leave with us.

He opened up more and more.

A week later when we got home -

he was ready to be part of his new family.

He has a sweet heart and is funny, funny, funny!

He loves to learn,

He loves being a brother and teasing his sisters,

He loves playing with them

and playing with his big brothers and sister!

He loves having a mommy and daddy
and reminds us every day how truly blessed we are.

We can't imagine life without him.

It really stinks living so far from family,

I hate the miles that keep us apart -

we cherish the visits that we get to spend

with family-

this last week Mimi and Uncle JB

came out for a visit!

We played,

cuddled,

took in three of soccer games

(kenzie's was post-poned due to rain)

and a football game!

Celebrated Mimi's birthday

(a month late)

and just had fun being silly!

Thanks for coming to see us Mimi and Uncle JB!

Since returning from our court date in Ethiopia in April I have mentioned three incredible boys who are waiting for the chance to have a family. My heart has broken for these boys - there is not a day that goes by that I do not think of them, pray for them and cry for them.

T – T is a quiet boy who likes to play with his friends. He has a calm and friendly personality that one might see as being shy, but after he warms up to someone he is more outgoing, kind and friendly.

T likes to be active and play soccer with his buddies. He is good at sharing and is kind to the younger children at the Care Center.

L-L is an adorable little guy who loves to have fun! He can be shy around adults but is friendly with the other children. He loves to play cars and enjoys trying to make one-on-one conversations with visiting adults. Showing off what English he is learning.

Z-Z is a very compassionate boy. He is always looking out for the younger boys at the Care Center. He is seen as a big brother to every one there and is sweet to every one.

Z is fun and loves to play games with his friends. He is not over powering for attention but is willing to wait his turn.

Here is how you can help:

Several of us have decided to host an online silent auction to raise funds for grants for the families that step forward to give these boys a home and family.

It will be from mid-November to December 1st. (just in time for your Christmas shopping!)

We would love to have you help us! Right now we are in the stage of gathering items to put in the auction (the website will be www.tlcfortlz.blogspot.com It’s in process right now )

Figuring things out!

I have had bloggy friends and real life friends

inquire on my absence from bloggy land,

and social activities lately-

well, I suppose it is time to come clean.

As I haven't been able to earlier,

because I hadn't figured it out -

not that I have "it" figured out now,

but thought I would share anyway.

I remember welcoming Brady and Kenze home from their first missionary trip

to Guatemala a few years ago.

They were so excited to share about their adventures,

the people they met,

the things they did.

I loved hearing their stories,

but a few days later,

when pictures had been shared and stories had been told,

Brady started to pull away.

He wasn't his happy go lucky self anymore.

He ~~missed~~ longed for Guatemala,

he missed his new friends,

he missed the simplicity of life and

how people were thankful for the little things

that they had received.

It took a while for Brady to work through these emotions

and to let God use them for His will in his life.

I am also going through a bit of this I believe.

I am so thankful that our boys are home and doing so wonderfully well.

But, when Donovan cries because he misses his friends,

I cry too.

I miss his friends.

I miss sitting on the steps of the orphanage

with a bottle of lotion and have the

children cheer for me as they put out their arms and legs

for me to massage lotion on them.

I miss singing with them.

I miss playing frisbee with them

and how I wish I could do more.

So after talking with a friend today,

I don't think I am suffering from PADS (post adoption depression syndrome)

but is there a post mission trip depression syndrome?

My darling 6 year daughter did NOT wear a pair of pants to

Bible study with a big rip down the seam.

(to my defense, I didn't see the rip until we were in the car,

on our way to Bible study)

I, of course, noticed and helped my little 4 year old

change his pants around correctly when we were on our

Fire Station field trip.

I did NOT feed my dogs "doggy biscuits" for dinner

and breakfast.

(Hey- if the kids can have popcorn...)

I did NOT give my 4 year old more water to play outside,

ignoring that he is making a mud mess.

I'm sorry the quiet time was too precious to mess with -

I'll clean the mud later.

My HERO lives in Africa

He gets up every morning from his cold, damp bed

and greets everyone kindly.

He helps make sure all the little boys

are up and ready for the day.

He studies hard at school,

he sings songs and plays games with all the kids -

making sure everyone is involved.

When visitors come to the orphanage,

he greets them with a warm smile,

and is gentle when he plays ball with these adults

as to not hurt the babies they are carrying.

He knows they have not come to meet him,

their joyful tears are not for him.

He does not hold this against the babies and younger kids,

rather he enjoys the time the adults spend with him

and cherishes the short time he visits with these adults.

At bed time, when all the lights are out,

and the nannies are in their beds,

he hears the cries of the scared little boys -

he goes to their side and comforts them

as a big brother does.

Ever feel like some puzzle pieces don't fit?

Every struggle to make something fit?

But it just feels like your putting a square peg

in a round hole?

Well, sometimes that is the world of adoption -

this feeling comes around often.

Deciding to enter into an adoption,

Paperwork,

waiting,

the "match",

meeting your child,

bonding your new family,

growing together as

family.

Though it feels like things might not come together -

God has a plan.

A plan for all involved.

A plan that HE may not share with us immediately,

but if we are willing to lean on HIM,

and let HIM lead,

then HE will.

Because He loves the orphan,

and HE loves family!

Fire house fieldtrip

Our boys are inlove with fire trucks!

We were very thankful when we were invited to visit

one of our firehouses in town.

Donovan and Elijah were sooooooo excited to wear their fire truck shirts!

Wow! Fire trucks up close!

That's a huge water gun!

Elijah LOVED the bell!

Jorja and Donovan loved getting into the fire truck!

and Ohhhhh the fire fighter poll!!!

How cool!!!

and they listened well when the fire fighters talked about

fire and emergency safety.

we were able to tour the upstairs,

we laughed when the fire fighter said that they have 10 people on each shift

so they need big tables and a big kitchen!

Jorja looked at me and said,

we need a table like this!

I agree -

that would be cool!

And we even got prizes!

Jailyn was with us too -

but she was a bit nervous about the whole thing -

so she baby sat Miss. Avary

I was able to get her to sit for a few photos-

(just thinking our Christmas photo might be a little crazy this year)

his history with us,

and some just crack me up!

Especially when he gives me that,

"silly momma" look!

M: Did the "Abooma" eat your Gambella Daddy's sheep?
(*Abooma - we're not completely sure what this is -
some kind of scary thing -
they play "abooma" and run around chasing each other -
every photo of a dinosaur is an "abooma",
and when ever they are outside near trees and bushes the boys are nervous
about the "Abooma".)

D: yes.

M: Did the Abooma eat your chicken?

D: no. giggle. giggle!

Chickens are inside my house.

D: I fish in Africa.

M: You fished in Africa?

Did you like to fish?

D: Yes!

M: Did you fish with a stick?

D: Ha! You silly!

Not just a number!

163 million orphans!

The numbers seem staggering,

there is nothing we can do for that many children.

But, each child is not number.

But each number is a child -

each number has a smile,

each number cries real tears,
each number longs to be held,
longs to be loved.

We have a friend who is in a battle with courts for their son

in Ethiopia.

This sweet child, doesn't understand why his daddy can't just take him from the orphanage,
Daddy and big sissy keep visit every day
BUT,
why he can't just take him on an airplane now.
(Remember what these sweet kids did when our boys left with us,
they cheered for our boys at the sight of the first airplane overhead.)

When his father came to visit him at the orphanage the other day -

the boy was sitting on the steps of the courtyard.

Daddy asked the Nanny if he was in time out.

She said, "No.

He was sitting on the step telling her he was not going

to take a nap until his daddy came,

that his daddy was coming soon!"

This sweet boy is not a number!

He loves his soon to be forever family!

There are 162,999,999 more children
sitting on the steps just waiting for their families to find them -
please pray,
what would God have you do?

for 20 minutes with one child,

(while the rest of my kids were in school)

waiting for his name to be called -

only to have the nurse call out brothers name.
(the brother who was at school.)

I did NOT get one child out of school early to
go to an orthodontist appointment,

only to find out when we arrived that

we were 24 hours late.

I did NOT serve my children popcorn
for dinner the other night,

just because I was too lazy to bring them all inside
from the beautiful weather and fun,
non-argumentative time we were having outside!

I did NOT serve dessert first -
just to keep the littles settled at the table while I
finished making dinner.

'cause you see -
I have IT all together!

Jailyn's day/weekend!

As it can be tough to get the whole family together at the same time,

we were able to extend Jailyn's birthday throughout the weekend!

Friday

Elijah and I were able to join her at lunch,

Donovan was there too, as they have the same lunch time,

and Jorja's teacher let her come surprise Jailyn for a bit.

After school,

Jailyn choose to go to the pool!

Always fun!

Though the water was a wee-bit chilly!

We came home for mac-n-cheese, cake, presents

and a first time viewing of

Willy Wonka!

(a new favorite of all!)

Saturday

After a day full of soccer,

Daddy took all the kiddo's to dinner -

unfortunately, Elijah was having some major attitude issues

so mom and Elijah stayed home.

Sunday

We still hadn't gotten a chance to do the pinata'!

Jailyn loves some pinata'!

And Donovan and Elijah...

Conner got to hit it open for everyone -

not after some teasing and pinata' raising from Brady!

All in all -

Jailyn had a great birthday weekend!

"I'm black"

The other day, Donovan, Elijah and I were in the car

coming home from his soccer game.

We were chatting about the colors of our shirts

and other colors around us.

Donovan blurted out,

"I'm black."

without hesitation

I responded,

"yes, your shorts and socks are black."

D: "No Momma.

I'm black!"

Ohhhh - now I know what he means!

Honestly, I don't see my boys skin color when we are at home,

or just with family.

It's not that I want to ignore the fact that they are African,

or that I want to take that away from them.

It's 'cause they are my boys!

They are our family!

They get praised for good choices,

they get time out for poor choices -

just like everyone else in the family.

And we have never really discussed the color of their skin,

and the rest of the families skin.

This may have been a mistake on our part.

The conversation continued...

D: "Mamma, I want to be white like you."

M: "Really? That is funny - I wish I was darker like you."

Donovan laughed,

"We be happy with our color"

M: "Yes son, you are right!

We all need to be happy with our skin color!

Because God made us all special and has a special plan

for all of us!"

D: "Jorj like her black hair?"
(He calls Jorja "George")

M: "Yes, I believe Jorja does like her black hair,

it's pretty isn't it?"

D: "Yes, it's black like mine.

Her skin no black like mine."

M: "Your right - her hair is black but her skin is tan."

D: "Jorj and Jailyn are Chinese,

Elijah and me are Africa."

M: "That's right!

And we are all American."

after a slight pause

D: "I like America

and America flag!"

M: "Do you like living in America with your family?"

D: "Ohhh yes, Momma!

I like MY America and MY family."
